Zhygylgan & the Heart Lake

“The fallen land” on the Caspian shore and a heart-shaped salt lake.

Zhygylgan means “the fallen land”. A once-flat stretch of the shore collapsed and is now a chaos of huge stone blocks. Guides and researchers point out what look like ancient animal footprints on some of the slabs.

From here we walk to Lake Kuzdykary, a small heart-shaped salt lake. The walk is about 4 km with a climb, so comfortable shoes are a must. Nearby are the underground mosque of Sultan-Epe and a shady gorge.
