Tuzbair Salt Flat

A snow-white salt flat beneath chalk cliffs — a landscape from another planet.

Tuzbair is an endorheic salt flat (a “sor” in Kazakh) in a shallow depression at the foot of white cliffs. In spring a thin layer of water covers it and mirrors the sky; in summer the salt hardens into a crust you can walk on.

We see the flat from the upper viewpoint and then go down onto the salt crust itself. The cliffs nearby hide a chalk arch, and the colourful Kokkala gorge is not far away.
