Bozzhyra

White limestone pinnacles at the foot of the Ustyurt Plateau — the most recognisable landscape of Mangystau.

Bozzhyra is a ridge of chalky cliffs and canyons where the Ustyurt Plateau breaks off in a steep escarpment. Its symbol is “the Fangs” — two sharp pinnacles you can see both from the upper viewpoints and from the valley floor.

We see Bozzhyra from several levels: three upper viewpoints, a middle platform overlooking the Fangs, and a lower spot at their foot. On the way we often stop at the striped Kyzylkup hills, nicknamed “Tiramisu” for their layered colours.

The place is far from towns and roads — it is quiet here, and the night sky is one of the darkest in the region.
